Pooja Shivaprasad is an associate at KLLF and passionate about fighting for the rights of our community members. Prior to joining KLLF, Pooja was a public defender at Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) in their Family Defense Practice. There, she represented parents in child abuse and neglect proceedings and litigated numerous trials and hearings in Brooklyn Family Court. By using a client-centered practice, Pooja was able to reunify a number of families separated by the Administration for Children’s Services.

Pooja graduated from UC Berkeley School of Law, where she served as an executive board member of the Women of Color Collective and an associate editor of the California Law Review. While at Berkeley Law, she assisted in civil rights litigation for incarcerated people at the Legal Aid Society’s Prisoners’ Rights Project and the Center for Constitutional Rights. Additionally, she engaged in community lawyering, organizing, and direct services at the East Bay Community Law Center and BDS’s Criminal Defense Practice.

Outside the office, Pooja enjoys riding her bike, eating her way through Brooklyn, and tending to her ever-growing plant collection.
